ISLAMABAD: According to GRY News sources, the Punjab government’s request to suspend social media during Muharram has been rejected.
Sources say that provinces had suggested banning six apps from the 6th to the 11th of Muharram. However, the federal government responded to Punjab’s request, stating that Facebook, TikTok, WhatsApp, and other social media apps will not be banned.
The federal government has promised to ensure tight security during Muharram. The Ministry of Interior has ordered enhanced security measures and will block mobile signals in areas with processions and majlis.
Earlier, the Punjab Home Ministry issued Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for majlis during Muharram. Walk-through gates must be installed at sensitive places, and Majlis’ security will have three layers to prevent incidents. The entry and exit routes for Majalis will be fixed before the events, and attendees will be checked with metal detectors. Car parking will be at least 200 meters away from the Majlis venue.
Loudspeakers will be limited to majlis, and punctuality is advised.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, led by Maulana Muhammad Abdul Khabir, will meet on July 6 to sight the Muharram moon and announce the new Islamic year.
Ashura

The day honors the resilience of the Prophet’s (PBUH) grandson, Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A.), his family, and companions who upheld Islam despite opposition. Mourning processions will occur in cities and towns across the country.
