The Sindh government has announced a public holiday on August 26 for all public and private schools across Karachi and the province. This holiday is observant of the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A.), a significant religious occasion.
The provincial education department’s steering committee made the announcement, which was confirmed through an official notification.
Chehlum marks the end of the 40-day mourning period after the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A.) and his companions in the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD. The day will be observed with processions and religious ceremonies, including the Alam, Tazia, and Zuljinah displays across Sindh. Strict security measures will be enforced to protect participants.
Because of these observances, all schools in Karachi and Sindh will remain closed on Monday, August 26. This will allow students and staff to participate in or reflect on the significance of this solemn day.
