On Wednesday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Zulfi Bukhari congratulated Republican Donald Trump on winning the 2024 U.S. presidential election against Democrat Kamala Harris, making him the 47th president of the United States.
“Many congratulations to President Trump, the vice president, and his team on behalf of PTI and [its founder] Imran Khan,” said Bukhari following Trump’s victory speech in Palm Beach, Florida, after U.S. media projected him winning 277 electoral votes to Harris’s 222.
Bukhari emphasized the importance of democracy, adding, “This victory shows that in a true democracy, no matter how many false cases are filed against a leader or how much state power is used against them, they can still win.”
Bukhari, who also serves as an advisor on international affairs to Imran Khan, expressed hope that Trump’s leadership would focus on global peace and address issues of justice worldwide, including those affecting Pakistan. He also acknowledged the U.S. for holding successful elections and facilitating a smooth transition of power.
