A viral video shows security forces pushing a PTI protester off a stack of three containers in Islamabad while he was praying.
In the footage, a young man is seen praying on the triple-stacked containers when a paramilitary officer shoves him off. The height of the containers is roughly equal to three stories. It is unclear if the protester survived the fall.
The containers were placed by the government to block roads leading to D-Chowk, but protesters climbed over them to join the demonstration. Late at night, authorities launched a crackdown, clearing D-Chowk and arresting over 400 PTI workers, according to initial reports.
The Islamabad Inspector General of Police (IGP) issued wireless orders, deploying elite commandos to the front lines to assist the operation. Lights in nearby areas were turned off, and residents were advised through public announcements to stay indoors for safety.
Many PTI workers reportedly sustained injuries during the crackdown. The situation remains tense as security forces continue efforts to control the crowds.
Earlier, the government announced it would no longer negotiate with PTI. At a joint press conference at D-Chowk, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Information Minister Atta Tarar stated the area had been cleared, with protesters pushed back by two intersections.
Interior Minister Naqvi remarked that everyone saw the actions of the individuals who participated in the protest convoy.
