Pakistan’s Bid for Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s Release Fails

Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has confirmed that Pakistan’s efforts to secure Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s release from the United States have not succeeded.

Speaking at the “China 75: Development, Transformation, and Global Leadership” conference, Dar highlighted the positive impact of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) on Pakistan’s energy sector, reducing load-shedding. He also thanked China for its support in resolving the Kashmir and Palestine issues and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the One China policy.

Regarding Dr. Siddiqui, Dar noted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had appealed to the US President for her release on humanitarian grounds. A three-member committee has been established to work with US lawmakers to seek Dr. Siddiqui’s pardon and repatriation to Pakistan.

Additionally, Dar condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza, reiterating Pakistan’s support for Palestinians and calling for an end to the violence, implementation of UN resolutions, and respect for international justice.

Pakistan’s relationship with the US remains complex, marked by cooperation and tension due to differing strategic interests.
