Pakistani boy wins Holy Quran recitation competition in Algeria

According to Pakistani state media, a 10-year-old boy from Pakistan’s Swat Valley won a $1,500 prize after competing in an international Qur’an recitation contest held by a private channel in Algeria.

In Pakistan, Muslim children are often encouraged to build a strong connection with the Holy Qur’an from a young age. Many are trained in Quranic recitation, and some even memorize the entire scripture early in life.

This dedication is reflected in their success on global stages, where young Pakistani reciters frequently perform well in Qur’an competitions, showcasing their deep cultural and religious commitment to the scripture and its teachings.

Muhammad Bashar, a ten-year-old from Swat, Pakistan, participated in the International Qur’an Recitation Competition, ‘Mazamir Dawood,’ held in Algeria, organized by the private media channel ‘Echorouk.’ Bashar secured fourth place, earning a $1,500 prize.

The Algerian channel hosts this competition annually, inviting young Qur’an reciters worldwide, including Pakistan.

Last year, a Pakistani teenager named Azam Tariq advanced to the final round of the 43rd King Abdulaziz International Competition for the Memorization, Recitation, and Interpretation of the Holy Qur’an in Makkah, earning SR5,000 and an achievement certificate.
