Pakistan made history with a dominant win over Australia at Adelaide Oval, claiming their first ODI victory there since 1996. This win marks the first time Pakistan defeated Australia at this venue in 28 years.
Led by Mohammad Rizwan, Pakistan excelled in all areas on Friday. They bowled out Australia for their third-lowest ODI score against Pakistan and clinched one of their most decisive wins over the hosts, taking victory by nine wickets.
The heavy loss will concern Australia, who had hoped to secure a 3-0 series sweep. With the series now level at 1-1, Australia’s management faces tough questions and a need for adjustments ahead of the final match.
Chasing only 164 to win, Pakistan openers Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique started cautiously, especially given their recent struggles as a pair.
By the end of the powerplay, Pakistan reached 47/0, successfully seeing off the threat posed by Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Josh Hazlewood.
After the powerplay, Saim Ayub shifted gears, helping Pakistan add 90 runs in the next 10 overs and sealing their advantage. Saim scored his maiden ODI fifty and narrowly missed his century, finishing with an explosive 82 that featured five fours and six sixes, with several stunning shots.
Meanwhile, Abdullah Shafique, initially struggling, also reached his fifth ODI fifty, supporting Pakistan’s chase with a steady hand. The openers’ valuable contributions guided Pakistan to a memorable win.
Former captain Babar Azam sealed the victory in style, hitting Adam Zampa for a six, while Shafique remained unbeaten with 64 off 69 balls.
