Pakistani singer and guitarist Haniya Aslam passed away early Monday. Zeb Bangash, her partner in the famous Zeb and Haniya duo, confirmed the news through an Instagram post. Bangash shared a touching tribute with photos of Aslam, captioned simply as “Hanini.”
Aslam reportedly died of a cardiac arrest. She was well-known for her contributions to Pakistani music, especially the hit “Bibi Sanam” from Coke Studio in 2010, which brought the duo much recognition.
Fans from around the world have been sharing tributes and condolences following the news of her death.
In a 2020 interview with Youlin Magazine, Aslam spoke about her deep love for music: “I’m not sure if I started pursuing music or music started pursuing me! I’ve always been really into music, almost to the level of obsession. I vaguely remember wondering how all the musicians fit inside a cassette tape when I was 4 or 5.”
