A shopping centre opening in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Johar district turned chaotic on Friday when low-priced offers led to unrest and damage.
Stick-wielding individuals forced their way into the venue after management sealed the doors due to the large crowd. The situation escalated quickly, causing significant disruption at the event.
The crowd grew angry when the management shut the mart despite advertising special deals for the launch.
Amid the chaos, the police were initially absent, though management later called for reinforcements.
SSP East Farukh Raza stated that after the mart closed, some “troublemakers” tried to throw stones. He added that the police eventually regained control despite needing to be informed beforehand by the mall’s management.
