Iqbal Day: Will November 9 Be a Public Holiday in Pakistan?

With Iqbal Day nearing, people wonder if November 9 will be declared a public holiday, as last year. However, there has been no official announcement yet.

Iqbal Day, observed every November 9 in Pakistan, honors Allama Muhammad Iqbal—a significant figure in Urdu literature and a visionary for Pakistan’s ideological foundation. The Day typically includes ceremonies, poetry readings, and educational events to celebrate his impact on philosophy and national identity.

In 2023, the government declared November 9 a holiday, and the Federal Cabinet Division has listed Iqbal Day as an official holiday again this year.
The 2024 public holiday calendar includes Kashmir Day, Pakistan Day, Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid-ul-Adha, Labor Day, Muharram, and Quaid-e-Azam’s Birthday. Optional holidays include Shab-e-Meraj and Shab-e-Barat and various religious festivals for non-Muslim communities, such as Basant Panchami, Shivratri, Holi, Good Friday, and Nowruz.
