A viral video on social media shows Monal Restaurant employees in Islamabad tearfully reacting after receiving termination letters from the owner.
Monal Restaurant, a well-known landmark, is set to close permanently next month. The closure follows a decision by the country’s top court to remove all restaurants from Margalla National Park, including Monal and La-Montana, to protect the park’s biodiversity.
Around 700 Monal employees now face an uncertain future after receiving job termination notices from owner Luqman Ali Afzal, causing distress among many families.
In a heartfelt farewell letter to his staff, which has gone viral, Afzal confirmed that Monal Restaurant will close on September 11, 2024, as directed by the Supreme Court of Pakistan. He expressed deep sadness, comparing the farewell to a father parting from his children after an 18-year association.
Afzal acknowledged the challenges of unemployment but emphasized that there was no alternative after the court’s ruling. He expressed regret over not being able to reassign staff to other projects due to the current financial crisis and urged them to begin searching for new jobs. He also mentioned that this decision should be seen as divine will.
Previously, the restaurant announced on social media that it would close permanently on September 11, 2024, in compliance with the Supreme Court’s directive.
