Govt to Install E-Gates at Airports for Fast-Track Immigration

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has announced plans to introduce “e-gates” at the country’s international airports to modernize and speed up immigration procedures.

According to a CAA spokesperson, the e-gates will allow quick clearance and meet global standards.

The first airports to get these e-gates will be Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore, Islamabad International Airport, and Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, as stated by the spokesperson.

Travellers will scan their passports at these e-gates. The main goals are reducing waiting times and improving the traveller experience. The CAA has invited technology companies to bid to install these advanced gates, with a submission deadline of August 13.

Additionally, a team from the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) recently conducted a security assessment at Karachi and Islamabad airports. Led by Senior Director Mr. Abdullah Al Kaabi, the team reviewed various aviation security areas, including passenger and baggage screening, cargo, and catering security.
