Unidentified gunmen open fire at senior police officer after he exits bullet-proof vehicle.
KARACHI – Unidentified assailants killed Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Investigations Deputy Superintendent Police (DSP) Ali Raza in Karachi’s Karimabad area on Sunday.
Two gunmen targeted the senior police officer, who was a close friend of the late senior superintendent police (SSP) Chaudhry Aslam, near a residential building in the area.
Ali Raza was shot in the head and taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he died from his injuries. A security guard of the residential building was also killed in the attack.
Police reported that one of the attackers wore an ajrak, a traditional Sindhi shawl, while the other hid his face with a helmet. The gunman used a 9mm pistol with a silencer. Police believe the assassins planned the attack after observing Ali’s visits to meet his childhood friends.
Officers found 11 spent bullet casings from a 9mm pistol at the crime scene. The gunmen fired at DSP Ali after he stepped out of his bullet-proof vehicle.
CTD Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Asif Aijaz Shaikh, speaking to journalists, vowed that the attackers would be brought to justice. He confirmed that Ali “used a bullet-proof vehicle.”
When asked about threats to DSP Ali, Shaikh responded that “all CTD officers face threats.” He added that two attackers fired 11 shots at Ali.
DIG Shaikh said it was too early to determine the motives behind the attack, which would be clarified after a thorough investigation. Senior CTD officers Raja Umar Khattab, Mazhar Mashwani, and Khurram Waris visited the crime scene following the attack. Law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area, and police investigators began collecting evidence and launched an inquiry to determine the motives behind the incident.
