Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved a plan to reduce electricity costs for the province’s citizens.
The plan offers interest-free loans for solar panel installation to consumers using between 50 to 500 units of electricity per month. The “Roshan Gharana” program aims to help millions of residents facing high electricity costs and energy shortages.
To formalize the “Roshan Gharana” program, the Chief Minister has called a cabinet meeting for tomorrow (Tuesday). During this meeting, the Punjab Cabinet will officially endorse the plan to distribute solar panels to eligible consumers.
Sources say the solar panels will be provided on a five-year instalment plan, making it affordable for many households. The Punjab government will cover 90% of the solar panels cost, with the remaining 10% paid by consumers. The instalment amount will be lower during winter, offering further relief.
The government will handle the distribution of the panels to ensure the program is managed efficiently and transparently. The program is expected to benefit millions of consumers using between 50 and 500 units of electricity per month. By switching to solar energy, these households will see reduced electricity bills and help lower the energy burden on the national grid.
The program also includes provisions to determine the ratio between electricity generated from the solar panels and that provided by the government. This will help consumers balance their energy needs effectively and ensure a smooth transition to renewable energy sources.
The “Roshan Gharana” program aims to provide long-term solutions to the energy crisis while promoting renewable energy use. The initiative is also expected to positively impact the environment by reducing reliance on non-renewable energy sources.
