Man Utd Eye Redemption Against Tottenham, Says Yoro

MANCHESTER — Manchester United defender Leny Yoro says Saturday’s clash with Tottenham Hotspur is a chance for redemption after last season’s crushing defeat in Bilbao cost United a Champions League spot.

“Everyone knows what happened in the final,” Yoro said. “This game can be a good opportunity to prove that maybe the final could have gone differently.”

The 19-year-old French centre-back, who joined from Lille in 2024, admitted the disappointment still lingers but said the team’s lighter schedule has allowed for crucial improvements.

“Of course, everyone wants to play in the Champions League,” he said. “But with one game a week, we’ve had more time to fix what wasn’t good last year.”

United’s Improved Form and New Energy

United enter the fixture unbeaten in four consecutive matches, sitting eighth in the Premier League, just two points behind second-placed Manchester City in a tight table.

“We’re in good momentum,” Yoro said. “This game against Tottenham will be key for us to stay near the top.”

Despite finishing 15th last season, Yoro insists he has no regrets about joining Manchester United, praising the club’s renewed team culture and focus.

“We don’t want any bad energy or drama. The club is doing well to keep everyone united,” he added.

    Tactical Shifts Under Amorim

Manager Ruben Amorim’s tactical rotations have also reshaped United’s defense. Yoro has adapted to Amorim’s frequent switches and taken on added responsibility behind attack-minded players like Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo.

“When I play with Amad and Bryan, I know they love to attack,” Yoro said. “My role is to give them that freedom while protecting the back.”

    Focus on Europe Return

Yoro concluded with a clear goal for the season: to bring United back to European football.

“When you’re at Manchester United, you need to play in Europe,” he said. “It’s really important for us this year — and it’s in everyone’s mind.”
