PPP and PML-N Unite to Oust AJK PM Anwarul Haq — New Leadership on Horizon

Muzaffarabad (GRY News): The long-standing political deadlock in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has finally ended as the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) jointly signed a no-confidence motion against AJK Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq.

PPP AJK Secretary-General Faisal Mumtaz Rathore confirmed to Geo News that the motion carries the backing of 37 members, with PML-N’s Raja Farooq Haider representing his party’s endorsement. “Five additional members have also pledged support,” Rathore stated, signaling a decisive political shift in the AJK Assembly.

    PPP Finalizes New PM Candidate

Sources within the PPP confirmed that Chaudhry Yaseen has been finalized as the party’s nominee for the AJK premiership. The decision was made at a strategic meeting in Zardari House, chaired by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and attended by top AJK leadership.

The session also evaluated other potential candidates — Chaudhry Latif Akbar, Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, and Sardar Yaqub — before unanimously endorsing Yaseen for the position.

    Alliance Terms and Political Strategy

According to insiders, the PML-N’s support was conditional upon early elections in AJK. The incoming government will reportedly prioritize constitutional appointments before dissolving the assembly for fresh polls.

PML-N leaders, including Rana Sanaullah and Ahsan Iqbal, clarified that their party will not join the new coalition but will instead sit on the opposition benches to ensure balanced governance.

    PTI Lawmakers Join PPP

In a surprise political realignment, 10 PTI lawmakers joined the PPP earlier this week, raising its strength in the AJK Legislative Assembly from 17 to 27. The lawmakers announced their decision at Zardari House, Islamabad, during a meeting with Faryal Talpur and Chaudhry Riaz.

The defectors include Muhammad Hussain, Chaudhry Yasir, Zafar Iqbal Malik, Faheem Akhtar Rabbani, and others — a move that cemented PPP’s majority ahead of the no-confidence vote.

    GRY News Analysis

Political observers believe this alliance marks a strategic reset in AJK politics, signaling the PPP’s growing influence and the PML-N’s tactical repositioning ahead of upcoming elections. If successful, Chaudhry Yaseen’s leadership could redefine power-sharing dynamics in the region.
