Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has hailed the recent agreement between Israel and Hamas as a historic breakthrough, describing it as a vital step toward achieving lasting peace in the Middle East.
The deal marks the first phase of U.S. President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan, which includes a ceasefire and a hostage exchange aimed at ending a two-year-long devastating conflict that has destabilized the region.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Prime Minister Shehbaz welcomed the development, calling it “a historic opportunity to end the genocide in Gaza and bring enduring peace to the Middle East.”
He praised President Trump for his “strong leadership and unwavering commitment to dialogue,” saying it reflected a genuine desire for global peace. The Prime Minister also acknowledged the “wise and persistent” diplomatic efforts of Qatar, Egypt, and Turkiye, who played a key role in brokering the deal.
Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep admiration for the Palestinian people, commending their courage and resilience amid immense suffering. He said their struggle and sacrifices must never be forgotten.
Condemning the recent provocations at Masjid Al-Aqsa, the Prime Minister urged the international community to take firm action against illegal settlers and occupying forces, warning that such actions could undermine the progress achieved through the new peace agreement.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to peace, he stated, “We will continue working with our allies and regional partners to ensure lasting peace, security, and dignity for the Palestinian people, in line with their aspirations and UN resolutions.”
