Severe monsoon rains likely in Karachi and Sindh: PMD warns

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned of heavy monsoon rains in Karachi and Sindh (starting this weekend). The rain prediction is likely to be of heavy rainfall that can lead to flooding in the urban centres, blocking traffic, and power supply in lowlands.

The citizens have been cautioned to watch the monsoon report and also avoid going out, and driving around too much during rains at their peak time and also to take precautionary measures in order to secure their properties/vehicles. Officials have also been advised to be at high alert to make sure that they drain and respond to any emergency quickly. The PMD also encouraged residents to keep watch of official weather advisory on a real-time basis.

In this scenario of heavy rainfall, the need to rework infrastructure and perceive awareness of citizens in managing the Karachi weather situation becomes more important.
