ISLAMABAD, July 31, 2025 — A Pakistani anti-terrorism court has handed down jail sentences to over 100 members of Imran Khan’s PTI party for their involvement in the May 2023 riots that attacked military installations. Fifty-eight senior party figures, including Omar Ayub Khan and Shibli Faraz, received 10-year sentences, while others received terms of one to three years. Seventy-seven defendants were acquitted for lack of evidence.
The verdict, described by critics as politically motivated, is part of a broader crackdown that has significantly weakened PTI’s parliamentary representation. Khan and his allies plan appeals and protests on August 5, marking the second anniversary of his arrest.
