A local court in Islamabad has acquitted former federal minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed in a case linked to remarks about President Asif Zardari allegedly plotting to assassinate former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
According to Geo News, the Judicial Magistrate of the District and Sessions Court in Islamabad announced the reserved verdict on Friday, granting Sheikh Rashid’s acquittal plea.
Speaking to the media after the verdict, Sheikh Rashid said, “With Allah’s help, I have been acquitted today, although 14 terrorism cases against me are still pending.”
The case, filed in 2023 at Islamabad’s Aabpara Police Station, included charges of conspiracy and incitement. The court had reserved its decision a day earlier.
Sheikh Rashid accused the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) of losing public support. He also claimed he wasn’t present at the location of the alleged incident.
