Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F), has expressed doubts about the release of Imran Khan, stating that he is unaware of any deal between the establishment and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
In a media briefing, Fazlur Rehman said, “The release of PTI’s founder seems unlikely right now, though political situations can change. I don’t know of any deal with Imran Khan, and I can’t comment on rumors.”
Responding to questions about his alleged involvement in securing bail for Imran Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, and his sisters, Fazlur Rehman clarified that these cases were dealt with separately. He also voiced support for political protests, asserting that PTI’s demonstrations should not be banned.
Fazlur Rehman emphasized the public’s right to protest and mentioned that lengthy negotiations over the 226th Constitutional Amendment had reduced the draft from 56 to 22 clauses. He criticized political party leaders for their compromising stance and blamed them for the weakened state of democracy.
He also reiterated his support for a strong military to protect Pakistan’s borders, stressing that a powerful army is necessary for the country’s security.
