Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan in the Hong Kong Super Sixes final on Sunday.
After winning the toss, Sri Lanka chose to field first and restricted Pakistan to a modest total of 72 runs at Mission Road Ground. Dhananjaya Lakshan led the bowling attack with impressive figures of 2/6.
Chasing 73, Sri Lanka reached the target with three wickets down and six balls remaining. Faheem Ashraf provided a key breakthrough for Pakistan in the fourth over by dismissing Weerakkody, who scored a quick 34 off 13 balls. Pakistan took two more quick wickets, reducing Sri Lanka to 59/3 in 4.2 overs. However, Tharindu Rathnayake’s crucial 16-run innings under pressure guided Sri Lanka to victory in the fifth over.
For Pakistan, Hussain Talat and Faheem Ashraf each claimed a wicket.
In the semi-final, Faheem Ashraf’s all-round performance helped Pakistan beat Australia to secure their spot in the final. Australia, batting first, posted a solid 107/1 in six overs, with openers Sam Heazlett and Jack Wood putting together a 56-run partnership. Faheem dismissed Wood for 36 in the fourth over, after he struck four fours and two sixes.
