Lahore: Film and stage actress Nargis, whose real name is Ghazala Idrees, was reportedly subjected to severe abuse by her husband, police inspector Majid Bashir, at her home in Lahore’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) on Friday.
A video shared online showed visible bruises on her face and eyes. Nargis, a prominent figure in Pakistan’s film and stage industry with over 100 film roles, accused her husband of assaulting her after she refused to transfer her property into his name.
In her First Information Report (FIR), Nargis alleged that Majid Bashir attempted to coerce her into transferring the ownership of her farmhouse and a nine-kanal plot, as well as other assets and gold ornaments. She claimed he threatened her with violence to force her compliance, hitting her with his official gun, especially targeting her face and eyes, and even placing the barrel of the gun in her mouth.
Nargis further alleged that Bashir wanted to allow a well-known TV host’s former wife to live in her house without her consent. She claimed this was the fourth time she had faced such extreme violence from her husband, but she had previously kept silent in an attempt to preserve her marriage.
On Friday, Nargis said Bashir “crossed all limits,” dragging her by the hair and attacking her in front of her nephew and employees. She also claimed that he threatened to murder her and frame her enemies for the crime.
SP Cantonment Division Operations Awais Shafiq confirmed that Inspector Bashir remains at large, and police are actively searching for him. Shafiq added that Bashir had already been suspended from duty due to other complaints and posted to police lines.
This marks the second reported instance of assault on Nargis. In 2002, she was also reportedly assaulted by dismissed police inspector Abid Boxer, leaving her with 39 injuries, including shaved eyebrows and head.
