Imran Khan Calls 26th Amendment Support ‘Treason’

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan stated that those who supported the 26th Constitutional Amendment have committed “treason” against Pakistan. Speaking from Adiala Jail on Tuesday, Khan asserted that anyone voting for the amendment undermined the Constitution and betrayed the nation.

On October 21, the government narrowly passed amendments granting lawmakers more influence in appointing top judges, following recent court rulings favoring Khan, the opposition leader. These judicial reforms also modified the selection process for Pakistan’s chief justice and set a target to phase out interest-based banking by January 1, 2028.

Reports indicate that 21 PTI members in the National Assembly defied the party’s stance and supported the amendment, according to PTI lawmaker Sher Afzal Marwat on the Aaj News show Spotlight.

Khan described the “mental anguish” he endures in jail, calling his confinement “shameful.” He claimed his cell’s power was cut for five days, leaving him in darkness, and he was kept indoors for 10 days. For several weeks, he alleged that his family, doctors, and lawyers were denied access to him.

Despite hardships, Khan emphasized his commitment to fighting for “Haqeeqi Azadi” (true freedom) for Pakistanis. He also criticized PML-N President Nawaz Sharif, alleging Sharif has little interest in Pakistan’s future, as his assets are held abroad, and accusing him of returning only to exploit the nation.

Khan also raised concerns about the “abduction” of his associate, Waqar Panjutha, calling it a “personal vendetta” against him.
