Athar Viqar Azim, the former director of current affairs at Pakistan Television (PTV) and general manager of its Karachi Centre, passed away in Karachi on Sunday. Azim was a pioneering team member who established current affairs programming on PTV and was known for his extensive coverage of significant historical events through live broadcasts.
He was also skilled in sports production, playing a vital role in the live coverage of major sports events. After leaving PTV, Athar continued his career in broadcasting by joining the private channel Hum, where he left a lasting impact as a proficient producer and broadcaster.
Athar was the son of the renowned Urdu critic and scholar, Prof Viqar Azim. His brother, Akhtar Waqar Azim, contributed significantly to PTV as its managing director.
