Nine people, including two women, drowned at Karachi’s Seaview and Hawke’s Bay beaches on Tuesday, with four others rescued.
At Hawke’s Bay, six people were caught in the waves while swimming. Rescue teams recovered one body and saved four individuals. Among those rescued, a woman and a man are in critical condition, according to police.
Separately, at Seaview’s Chunky Munky area, three people drowned. Divers managed to rescue two, but the third, Danish, did not survive. Danish, from Sultanabad, was returned to his family after completing legal procedures.
The deceased was identified as 30-year-old Noreen, wife of Shera, Asma, and 40-year-old Arshad, son of Basheer, from Liaquatabad No. 3, near Gujjar Nullah.
Karachi’s Additional IG, Javed Alam Odho, has taken strict notice of the incidents at Turtle Beach, Hawke’s Bay. He has ordered departmental action against the SHO for negligence and carelessness.
